Entry Guidelines and Submission Info

All entries must have been:

  • Designed by firms or individuals whose primary business is located in the state of Alaska, including corporate in-house designers and design teams. Entries may be for clients in any market.
  • Originally published, printed, or circulated between September 1, 2022 and August 31, 2023.

This competition is limited to commercially-produced, printed, interactive, or other media, and considers the design of complete units only. AIGA Alaska will not assume any responsibility or liabilities associated with any content used to display, promote, and/or represent submitted works for The BIG One.

With the exceptions of public service, self promotion or student pieces, work entered must have been the result of paid creative services in the normal course of business.

  • Public service work donated to recognized organizations and social causes will be accepted.
  • Corporate or freelance self-promotional pieces are considered commercial work and eligible for entry if they were published during this year's eligible timeframe.
  • Student work may only be entered by its respective author who is currently enrolled or was enrolled in an accredited educational institution no more than one (1) year prior to this year's submission period. Student work is limited to creative works done in a classroom environment or otherwise for academic purposes. Students may either be Alaska residents enrolled in institutions within or outside of the state of Alaska or nonresidents enrolled in an Alaskan Educational Institution. Freelance or internship work done while enrolled in school may be accepted as student work at the discretion of the organizing committee—please ask in advance.

ONLINE ENTRY SUBMISSIONS:

Entries and judging for The BIG One are completed 100% online through a third-party submission portal. We have worked tirelessly to find a vendor each year that offers a streamlined user experience all-around. After entries close, submissions are vetted by the AIGA Board and the judging rounds begin. The first judging round is private, completed by our volunteer judges. The second judging round is the people's choice voting—open to the public—with all votes having to be qualified via Facebook profile. The people's choice voting round will be advertised before online submissions close.

For registration on Judgify:

  • Fill in the business name for which you are submitting awards
  • If you are submitting on behalf of an agency and then also yourself for freelance work or otherwise, please create unique registration accounts or details on the presentations and your awards will be mixed
  • We will require your name, phone number, email address, and mailing address—information will only be used for communications regarding The BIG One
  • If you are an active AIGA member, select the option for your discount

For all entries, be prepared to include:

  • Project name, creative brief, client name, and publication date
  • Credits for the entire creative team
  • Be sure to spell check names and titles as this information will appear on the award certificate, the awards presentation, and in the winners gallery online
  • JPG cover image that is 3000x3000 pixels, preferably 10"x10" at 300dpi
  • Note: the cover image will be the only image viewable for people's choice voting and will be used for additional presentations as necessary
  • Up to 4 supplemental attachments encouraged; JPG, PNG, and PDF files accepted
  • If you are uploading a multiple page item (like a book) we suggest you pull select pages out and upload them as JPGs for easy viewing
  • Interactive entries may include video attachments and links to the appropriate app store
  • Videos may be hosted on a video site such as YouTube or Vimeo
  • If necessary, provide links to publicly accessible campaigns or landing page of live websites and include any applicable usernames and passwords in the ‘Extra’ box so judges can access the entry
  • Please do not upload any further written material as that component of your entry should be fully explained in the design brief
